To celebrate world book day 2019 and all the magical authors around the world Country House Library has been inspired to create a Travel Shelfie!
Carry on reading to find out how Sean created this eye-catching shelf feature.
The Shelf
For the backdrop, I have used large vintage map approx size 2.44 by 1.22m I have pasted this to the wall using double sided sticky tape. You can find these large scale maps in most vintage shops.
The shelves have been created from extruded aluminum cut to shape, these were then attached to the wall through screws and wall plugs, creating a floating shelf effect.
Colour tones
Earth tones are a key trend for 2019 so think beige, brown, oranges, yellows and dark greens (warm tones) I had no problem sourcing books of this colour through the vast collection we have in our country house library. Click here to shop decorative books
Another interior trend for 2019 is authenticity, you can easily add this into your wall feature by using hanging house plants with rope and cacti in some funky ceramic pots.
Additionally, you could print out some photos from your travels and paste them onto the places you have visited. This is also the perfect opportunity to place your found objects from your travels, the quirky the cooler.
Objects / Styling
Sourcing the objects for styling this shelfie was really fun. I hunted down my local vintage shops for some interesting trinkets including some antique binoculars and safari hat. These little props at a touch of personality to the shelf!
The Books
I wanted to go quite minimal with this shelfie so I chose books that fitted into this idea and I came across The British Observer Guides. These little informative books are just wonderful (with or without their dust jackets) you can create gorgeous colour gradients that look fabulous on any shelf.

The 1920s was all about glitz and glamour, with vibrant colours, geometric shapes, and patterns evoking fun, exotic and stylised imagery. Think opulence and the aesthetics of The Great Gatsby Movie.
