October is a time for all things dark and macabre, with the spookiest reads and most unsettling pieces of literature taking priority above all else. To celebrate the month of terror, we've reached out to our wonderful brand ambassadors and asked for them to share their favourite chilling and haunting books with us. Be warned - what you will find below is not for the faint of heart...
"Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is quite possibly the most captivating story I’ve ever read. It has become known as one of the most influential novels of the twentieth century and it’s easy to understand why. A perfect mix of suspenseful, chilling, and elegant, Rebecca is a must-read during the autumn season!"

"Every October I get an urge to read Frankenstein, a classic horror novel that I love visiting often for its chilling tale of a monster who is created and then promptly abandoned by the selfish, cowardly Dr. Frankenstein. This novel has enjoyed unwavering popularity over the years, perhaps because Frankenstein offers more than just a tragic narrative. Themes of parental neglect & abandonment, societal rejection, medical ethics, origins of evil in humans (Mary Shelley’s story offers a study in the nature vs. nurture debate) and more permeate the book, causing this classic to remain startlingly relevant nearly two hundred years after its publication."

"One of my favourite horror authors is Ania Ahlborn, she is an absolute master of suspense. I've read a number of her books, but 'Within These Walls' has continued to stick with me during those late sleepless nights. I was so gripped that I read this nearly 500 page book in only two days - the ending left me speechless, as only the best psychological books can."

"For me a strong favorite is Glamorama by Brett Easton Ellis. I read it two years ago for the first time and stupidly didn't make the connection between Easton Ellis and his other classic horror story - American Psycho. I didn't know anything about the book before I started reading it and it started out fairly innocently, like your average social satire novel, so it was the biggest shock to me when people started being gruesomely murdered left right and centre. I can just remember being absolutely horrified by it but it was so gripping I couldn't stop reading. That book will always stay with me for that reason. It delivered what it promised. Pure horror."

"A twisting gothic tale of love and suspicion, this tale draws the reader in the world where money and inheritance rules all. Du Maurier paints a world where men have ultimate control over women but Rachel manages to tip that all on its head when she seduces the heir to her late husbands estate. Much to the shock of the surrounding neighborhood and family. And while the reader can’t help but love Rachel, you also suspect her, just like Philip. I started this novel and truly loved Philip, only to hate him in the end."
