Reader's note

This fascinating book is a startling look at the essays written by John Custance. Canon L. W. Grensted explains the circumstances in his foreword - I came to know Mr. John Custance while he was in Oxford during an interlude in the experience which he has here described and interpreted. Nobody could have told at that time that he was the victim of the mysterious and alarming disorder known as manic depressive insanity...He has now done me the honour of letting me read this illuminating record of his experiences and asking me to write a foreword. - an introduction written from one friend to another. The essays contained within are truly brilliant, even if you don't agree with the opinions they contain, you will leave this book with a new perspective. This is an unusual title that shouldn't be overlooked and it should be given pride of place in your home reference library.
