Reader's note

This is a lovely first edition of Wild Orchids of Britain by V.S.Summerhayes. Always a favourite family among botanists for collection and study, the orchids have recently been the subject of much intensive research. This volume provides a new treatment - new becas it incorporates the results of these latest conclusions, and because it approaches orchids from a wider, less parochial viewpoint then that of previous books. Mr Summerhayes is in charge of the unrivalled orchid collection at teh Kew Herbarium; he is able, therefore, to look at our fifty species in relation to his knowledge of this vast family throughout the world. There is no doubt that this book will remain a standard work for yeast to come, as an introduction and guide to a group of plants which will never lose its unique appeal to students of the British Flora.
