A 1977 edition of White Boots by Noel Streatfeild. This is a book about two little girls who want to be skating champions. One of them, Lalla, starts with every advantage except a happy home; the other, Harriet, is a poor and delicate and can only afford to skate at all because her brother pays for her out of his newspaper round. But they became friends and after some difficulties and misunderstandings each helps the other achieve her heart's desire. This is one of Noel's best stories and in it she demonstrates once again her particular genius for making you care about what happens to her characters.
