Reader's note

A beautiful 1966 edition of West Indian Folk-Tales retold by Philip Sherlock. Here are fables of the birds and animals of the West Indies: jaguar, snake, crested curassow, wild pig, parrot, wise owl, and of Anansi the spider who can assume human form - greedy, lazy and cunning, mischievous Anansi who tries to outwit animals far larger and stronger than himself and who, despite his vices, manages to be loveable; for who but Anansi would think of such complicated schemes to avoid work or to get himself out of awkward situations? This is a delightful read accompanied by wonderful illustrations by Kiddell-Monroe.
