Reader's note

This was Virginia Woolf's first ever novel and it was originally published in 1915. It followed the conventional form of the novel of that day, and showed no sign of the revolutionary methods of her later novels. But the signs of genius were in the book, for the reviewer of it in the Observer wrote 'This is just the story of a voyage, but the filling in is done with something startlingly like genius' and the Spectator 'The Voyage Out is that rarest of things, a novel of serious artistic value. Everything seems solid, everyone seems to have an independent character and a collection of past experiences - to have a separate existence in fact outside the pages of the book.' This uplifting yellow edition from Hogarth Press will stand out for the right reasons in any library!
