Reader's note

This exciting book will add a touch of class to your library! This title details some of the adventures of mountaineer Eric Shipton with chapters dedicated to the Alps, Everest and Mount Kenya to name but a few! He recalls his fascination with climbing from his early childhood - Once I saw a party of climbers with ice-axes and rope. I regarded them with reverence and awe. I was a bit worried about this climbing business. Obviously, it seemed, one must climb if one were to have anything to do with mountains. I had experienced a tremendous thrill scrambling up a rough mountain slope, which suffered little by the disillusionment of my rapid exhaustion. But real climbing involved hanging by finger nails over giddy drops. I was frightened of drops, and could not bear to look over the edge of a high building or even to stand on a high balcony with only a flimsy iron railing between me and the street below. But the attraction of mountains was so strong that even this fear assumed a kind of fascination. - a fantastic book and a fine addition to any collection!
