The author states in the introduction - Lovers of trees and shrubs have certainly been catered for during the last three decades as they never had been before, and one can only compare what has been done for them by collectors with what was acomplished in tropical lands for orchid lovers in the latter years of the nineteenth century. - this book was written at the dawn of when many new species were introduced to Britain. See how their cultivation has grown and improved over the years. With beautiful full colour plates throughout, this title is the perfect literary gift for anyone interested in the history of gardening.
