Reader's note

This book considers all the major problems of town and country planning - considers them freshly and vigorously in the light of modern conditions. Without a doubt now is the time when they should be particularly considered. Housing and most civil undertakings of that kind are at a standstill during war, but there will be a great rush of activity when the war is over; and if we are to avoid that tragic muddle and mess that followed the last war, it is essential that we get our minds clear now as to what should be the basis of our future policy in the building of towns and carrying through the widespread improvements that are necessary in the countryside. Town planning is an attempt to formulate the principles that should guide us in creating a civilised physical background for human life. A fascinating read for anyone who has ever wondered why we live the way that we do.
