Reader's note

This lovely yellow edition of Tolstoy’s A Confession and What I Believe contains Tolstoy’s interpretation of Christ’s five commandments which different very considerably from that given by the Church .However he introduces an intelligible and practical meaning which most of us had never suspected til we read his books. A Confession was first circulated in Russia in 1882 and What I Believe in 18884. They were first printed together in Geneva in 1888. The Gospel in Brief was first published in 1883 and in The World’s Classics Mr Aylmer Maude’s translation was first published in 1921. This is the new edition which contains The Gospel in Brief. A lovely addition to any home library.
