Reader's note

Look at classic literature a little differently with this wonderful book that analyses the female characters in Homer's epic stories. Chapter VII entailed 'Some Homeric Women' begins - We know in our own acquaintance the counterpart of the wise and stern Athene, the unapproachable virgin, mighty in battle, yet skilled in all female handiwork. We know the virgin huntress Artemis, scorner of men - for Homer know nothing of her weakness for Endymion. We know poor Hekabe, all mother, as fierce against the slayer of her darling Hector as a tigress - are these familiar tropes still applicable to this day? Can criticism from the 1800s still be relevant? It is this comparison that makes the book very much worth reading and is the perfect gift for anyone looking to get more out of their favourite books.
