Reader's note

A pictorial covered 1966 edition of The White Peacock by D. H. Lawrence! Stamped with the strange genius of Sons and Lovers, this was D.H. Lawrence's first novel. The Saxtons and the Beardsalls lived on opposite sides of the Valley of Nethermere in Nottinghamshire. They had little in common, but their very differences created a subtle attraction. The relationship between George Saxton and Lettie Beardsall grew into a force which governed both their lives; yet Lettie, wanting more than animal attraction from a man, married someone else. The effect of her perverse decision - especially on George - forms the theme of this mature and exciting book.
