Reader's note

A wonderful 1955 edition of The Trouble at Number Seven by Gerald Bullett, published in a vintage Pan paperback! This story starts in decorative tranquillity. The story is set in a suburb of London during the closing years of Queen Victoria's reign. At its centre, and providing a deliberately distorting and enlarging lens through which the other characters are seen, is young Charlie Pilcrow, who lives over his fathers Pharmacy at 7, Barnard Row, Middleditch. In the mind of the imaginative child the persons and things of the external world, the uncles, the aunts, the feats, the funerals, the Saturday adventures and the Sunday Chapel-goings, assume great importance.
