Reader's note

A 1937 The Penguin Shakespeare edition of The Tempest by William Shakespeare. Prospero, once Duke of Milan, has for ten years been living on an island with Miranda, his only child, attended by Ariel, a spirit of the air, and Caliban, a deformed savage. Prospero is a magician. By his art the ship containing his brother Antonio, the usurping Duke of Milan, and Alonso, the King of Naples, is run aground on another island. Alonso's son, Ferdinand, separated from the rest of the party, meets Miranda. They fall in love with each other, to Prospero's delight. By the aid of his magic Prospero brings him to the king of Naples and his brother the realisation of their wickedness.
