Reader's note

If you like poetry and vintage books then this is your call to start a Penguin Poets book collection, starting with this 1952 edition of The Penguin Poets focusing on Edith Sitwell! The early poems of this author aroused (to quote Mr Jack Lindsay's essay on Dr Sitwell('an extreme fury of hatred.' This was due partly to the fact that they 'attempted to pierce down to the essence of the thing seen, by discovering in it attributes which at first appear alone, but which are acutely related. Façade with its hard masculine rhythms, its violent exhilaration or sadness masked by gaiety aroused this fury because of the extreme condensation of image. Experience this emotive poetry in this vintage book!
