Add a splash of yellow to your bookshelf with this vintage book by Elizabeth Gaskell, comprised of three stories published as one volume: Cranford; The Cage at Cranford; The Moorland Cottage. A portrait of the residents of an English country town in the mid nineteenth century, Cranford relates the adventures of Miss Matty and Miss Deborah, two middle-aged spinster sisters striving to live with dignity in reduced circumstances.
“I never knew what sad work the reading of old-letters was before that evening, though I could hardly tell why. The letters were as happy as letters could be — at least those early letters were. There was in them a vivid and intense sense of the present time, which seemed so strong and full, as if it could never pass away, and as if the warm, living hearts that so expressed themselves could never die, and be as nothing to the sunny earth. I should have felt less melancholy, I believe, if the letters had been more so.”
This 1944 edition has beautiful blue and gold decorative boards beneath the dust-jacket and Gaskell's writings are always a classy and welcome addition to any bookshelf. Garb this gem among a bounty of stunning vintage books and classic novels on our online used bookstore.
