Reader's note

If you love history, then this is the perfect vintage book for you! The Christmas carol about the 'Good King Wenceslas' written by the Victorian church scholar John Mason Neale, brought the name of Bohemia's patron saint into millions of homes throughout the English-speaking world. This book contains facsimiles of miniature copies of twenty-four legendary scenes from the life of Wenceslas, painted on the walls of the chapel in Prague's famous cathedral of St. Vitus where he is buried. They are the work of the painter and illuminator Matthias Hutský de Křivoklát who presented them in 1585 to his former benefactor Archduke Ferdinand II. A book like this is both fascinating to read and wonderful to look at! The best kind of addition to your home reference library.
