Reader's note

The horse, Bree, and the boy, Shasta, are the heroes of this exciting tale. Together they run away from the cruel land of Calormen and ride by ‘burning day’ and ‘silvery night’ across the great desert to Narnia. It is there that Shasta discovers who he really is. Mr Lewis’s book has sufficient fantasy and lightness of touch to deserve very high praise indeed. All is handled with admirable skill and sensibility. The tone is always so exactly right. Mr Lewis never talks down.
