Reader's note

Add this stunning antique book to your home reference library today! This wonderful tome teaches the reader everything they need to know about colour in the animal kingdom, what it is used for and why colour is perceived. This section taken from chapter II explains why blood may be a different colour in some animals - Just as natural selection may develop an appearance which harmonises with the surroundings, out of the material provided by non-significant colour, the same agency may lead to the disappearance of the latter when it impedes the success of an animal in the struggle for existence. Thus the red colour of blood has disappeared in certain transparent fishes, which are thereby concealed from their enemies. - fascinating to read and beautiful on the outside as well. This book is well worth a read if you love nature.
