Reader's note

This beautifully decorative book is a great piece of historical fiction! It is explained in the author's preface - This little tale is the second attempt on the part of the author to illustrate the tenth persecution and the period when Britain, like all the civilised world reposed under the shade of Pagan Rome, the mother and mistress of nations. It has another and higher object - to illustrate the powerful influence which the triumph of a martyr was sometimes permitted to have upon those who beheld his heroic constancy in the hour of bitter agony, many of whom seemed, from that hour, like men under the influence of a mighty spell, although previously, perhaps his active persecutors. - a truly exciting story of courage in the face of an ever changing world. A great addition to any home library.
