Reader's note

A wonderful copy of Tess of the D’Urbervilles in a small, dark blue leather bound volume. Hardy’s popular novel is the story of poor Tess Durbeyfield who claims a kinship with the wealthy D’Urbervilles in order to receive some of their fortune. However she is torn between a man who seems to offer genuine love and the man she dislikes but promises her a comfortable future. A story that scandalised Victorian society, this edition contains an introduction by C. Day Lewis.
