Reader's note

An attractive 1978 edition of Song for a Queen by Rosemary Sutcliff with a colourful eye-catching cover design! "Listen now, for your sword is singing, 'I am the proud one, I that am sword to a Queen, The sun flames not more brightly than my hilt, The night cannot outshine my blade's dark sheen...' But now the light fades And the wild duck home are winging, And sleep falls..." Ever since the day when he had fashioned a sword out of a willow wand for the young Boudicca and, at her insistence, composed a victory song that was part lullaby for her, Cadwan the Harp had kept the record for his Queen. As Boudicca led the Iceni from victory to victory, that first improvisation proved prophetic; then the light faded, leaving but one tragic course open to the dark queen.
