Reader's note

This marvellous 1958 edition of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Tragedy of Korosko would be a fantastic gift for any fan of adventure stories! When, in February 1895, the Korosko started her voyage up the Nile from Shellal at the head of the first cataract to Wady Halfa, not one amongst the very congenial company of her passengers thought that the voyage would be any different from the many other trips that the ship had made. Nor when, on reaching their destination, they set off on an excursion to the famous Abousir Rock to view the second cataract did any foreboding reach them. It was only when the dreaded, but half-legendary, Dervishes suddenly appeared and brutally captured them that the happy company of sightseers was changed to bewildered individuals who would have preferred to be killed outright than to face the prolonged tortures with which they were threatened...
