Reader's note

With a cover as blue as the ocean, this lovely old book is a gorgeous addition to any reference library! If you love ships and their history, this is the book for you! The author points out something quite alarming in his introduction - Has any reader ever thought how strange a place the world would be without ships? To some people, certainly, the abscence of ships would make but little difference in their lives. The South Sea Islander would still eat fish and fruit and roots...but we, in the little island of Britain would have starved - harrowing to think about! Read on to find out how boats were first built and how the technology has improved. With a colourful cover and decorative full colour plate illustrations throughout, this title is a fascinating read from start to finish.
