Reader's note

This is a lovely edition of Selections from The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon, edited and with introduction and notes by J.W.Saunders. Here, twenty one extracts from Edward Gibbon’s, one the greatest of all historians, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. All are of a considerable length, in order to show Gibbon’s power of sustaining his efforts, with the exception of six shorter ones. Of these Extract II deals with the early Germans; Extract III, VI, VIII, and XVIII deal briefly with British or English activities; Extract XVI gives us the origin of Russia. A lovely addition to any home library.
