Reader's note

What can there be of interest to study the in the very tenuous atmosphere, which exists 20 miles above the Earth? Surely there is little enough air at the height of Everest. It would seem to be even less worth while to explore the empty space between the Earth and the Moon or the surroundings of the Moon, particularly as there is no lunar atmosphetre. In fact, there is a great deal of scientific interest and indeed of practical importance in the upper atmosphere...this fantastic green penguin science book covers rockets and satellites from 1958! Discover how things have progressed and developed since this time!
