Reader's note

This eye-catching vintage book is a 1948 edition of Miranda: Book of the Film. Of all the strange creatures of fable and fantasy - fauns, satyrs, dryads, centaurs - none has taken a firmer hold on man's imagination than the mermaid. Her woman's body, so alluring, and her fish's tail, so surprising, make the mermaid the subject of many a sailor's yarn, when the tavern talk is of marvels, or the watch below are swapping experiences. But of all strange encounters on shore, or in the sea deeps, that men have had with these enchanting creatures none could be stranger than the story of Dr. Paul Marten, who caught and was caught in his turn, and took his unlikely patient back with him to London. What followed is the subject of Gainsborough's delightful comedy, produced at Islington Studios by Betty Box, directed by Kenneth Annakin, and starring Glynis Johns, Googie Withers, Griffith Jones, and John McCallum. A gem among a bounty of out of print, rare and stunning vintage books in our second hand bookstore.
