Reader's note

Simenon's writings are always a classy and welcome addition to any bookshelf. It’s springtime in Paris. Things are slack. With Madame Maigret away in Alsace, Maigret hardly knows how to occupy his time. And then Inspector Janvier, one of his favourites, is shot while watching the lodgings of a petty thief in the Rue lhomond. Surely a boy who had robbed a till with a toy pistol would hardly floor a policeman with a Colt? Maigret installs himself in the lodgings and watches and questions. And in time the bird settles on his hand. This is one of ten new Simenon's which have been added to the Penguin list. This vintage book would make a delightful addition to any library.
