Reader's note

This charming little pocket-sized book is a well-loved classic by Simenon. The scene of Maigret Mistake is laid in an apartment house in a well-to-do section of Paris. The body of murdered girl , whose scanty wardrobe and reputation as a demimondaine surround her tenancy with mystery, is found and Maigret is called in. His inquiries involve a distinguished doctor who lives with his wife in the same house as the murdered girl and whose attitude towards women is cynically utilitarian. The mystery is deepened by the disappearance of the girl’s musician lover and by the honest, but limited, disclosures of all the witnesses. Maigret finds himself on one false scent after another and is as surprised by the denouement as is the reader. The perfect gift for all lovers of classic literature and rare, vintage books.
