Reader's note

Simenon's writings are always a classy and welcome addition to any bookshelf. In Maigret in Montmartre the action centres round a small boite de nuit named ‘Piratt’s’. The striptease girl informs the police that she has overheard two men planning to murder ‘the Countes’. Shortly afterwards she is found murdered herself. The subsequent investigations, conducted by Maigret and the lugubrious and jealous Inspector Lognon, involve a second murder and a chase which nearly removes Maigret from any further detective activities. The revelations of vice, perversion and drug addiction disgust Maigret, but his feelings for the case makes him stay in Montmartre where the action is fast and exciting. The atmosphere of the neon-lit night life is reproduced with the vividness of which Simenon alone has the secret. Just one of the many classic, collectible, vintage books available on our online used bookstore.
