Reader's note

This charming novel has as it’s heroine the self-effacing Fanny Price, who is adopted into the rich and frivolous family of her uncle Sir Thomas Bertram. Fanny’s life as a poor relation is anything but agreeable but due to her modesty and the sweetness of her nature, she is gradually accepted as an indispensable member of the household. The story principally concerns the love affairs of the Bertram family and the charming but worldly Crawfords, in which Fanny unwillingly plays a principal part. The gentle heroine's sterling character is proved through many and varied trials and tribulations, until she finally wins the happiness she richly deserves.
