Mansfield Park Is the third published novel of the esteemed Jane Austen - first published in 1814. At the tender age of 10, Fanny Price is adopted into her wealthy uncle Sir Thomas Bertram’s household. The novel then follows her development into early adulthood and investigates the established elegance of the household whilst questioning the moral validity of certain topics like slavery. Austen’s views on theatrical performance, religion and ordination also seep into the text and are often further analysed in later adaptations of the text. While ‘Mansfield Park’ appears in some ways to continue where ‘Pride and Prejudice’ left off, it is a much darker work, which challenges 'the very values it appears to endorse'.
