Reader's note

The Sunday Times reviewed Tolkien's writing - He has distilled elements of Norse, Teutonic and Celtic myth to make a strange but coherent world of his own, presented with a limpid joy in natural beauty and a constant undertow of embodied terrors. - high praise indeed for this classic series which has inspired so much that has come after it! This impressive 1974 edition is complete with appendices A - F, contains a full glossary of unfamiliar terms and a pull out map of middle Earth. If you know a Tolkien collector who is looking for something truly brilliant, this would be the best literary gift to get for them.
