Reader's note

J. M. Barrie's works are a wonderful addition to any vintage collection. His stage directions remain famous among critics for their deep descriptions and manner in which the scene is set such as in this short extract from Act 1 - For a moment this is a mellow light, and if a photograph could be taken quickly we might find a disturbing smile on the room’s face, perhaps like the Mona Lisa’s, which came, surely, of her knowing what only the dead should know. - a haunting description that really lets a director know what the mood should be. Read on to gain your own inspiration or just to lose yourself in an excellent classic drama.
