Reader's note

This wonderful beige biography will add a sense of nostalgia to your vintage library. It is set in Bloxwich, a manufacturing village on the rural rim of the Black Country; one of the rare places in England that had both factories and farms. It was because of this, it was a strange and exciting place to grow up. Rustic pastimes had not died out, but the toys and joys of the machine gave the old life a new flavour. At the time of publishing, author Maurice Wigan was well known as a television critic, columnist and writer of fishing books. This title shows another side to him, where he has recreated scenes from a golden youth, up to the moment in 1939 when an epoch ended. This book is a picture of a vanished world that many people can relate to. If you're interested in English history, culture and the way that England has changed for the better and worse, this old book tells this story better than any other and is a wonderful gift for anyone feeling nostalgic.
