Reader's note

Enjoy another piece of classic literary history with this rare, vintage book by George Eliot. The novel follows four characters' rural lives in the fictional community of Hayslope—a rural, pastoral, and close-knit community in 1799. A tale of love and regret, the four main characters of the story are Hetty Sorrel a beautiful but utterly self-absorbed woman; the young soldier who seduces her Captain Arthur Donnithorne; Adam Bede her unacknowledged but competing suitor; and Dinah Morris, a virtuous and beautiful Methodist lay preacher and also Hetty’s Cousin. Eliot describes portrays these characters and their intertwined lives as they compete for each other’s love. This is a lovely vintage and pocket-sized edition of this story measuring just under 6” tall and 4” wide.
