Reader's note

Among the problems to which historians have never been able to answer is: Why did George II and Caroline his wife behave towards their eldest son Frederick with such marked animosity? They humiliated him at every turn. They publically expressed a wish that he had never been born and a desire that he should meet an early death. They were cruel to his wife. They sought to disinherit him in favour of their younger son, William. Their hatred of him was almost pathological. Without claiming to have solved this problem, Vaughan Wilkins offers a feasible explanation. What that is transpires in the course of this stirring period novel, in which by chance, the fates of many people are interwoven...a tragic and fascinating tale from one of the best writers of historical romance! A true gem to add to any library!
