Reader's note

Keeping with the neutral tones, this copy of 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' is as decorative as it is fascinating to read. In chapter 1, Robert Jordan and Golz engage in some banter - "I like it very much when I was your age, too," Golz said. "They tell me you blow bridges very well. Very scientific. It is only bearsay. I have never seen you do anything myself. Maybe nothing ever happens really. You really blow them?" be was teasing now. "Drink this," he handed the glass of Spanish brandy to Robert Jordan. "You really blow them?" - expertly crafted natural dialogue between two characters. Just one of the reasons why Ernest Hemingway is regarded as one of America's greatest authors.
