A wonderful copy of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights. This is a dark novel of intense characters and dramatic actions set against the evocatively described, wild and isolated moorlands of Yorkshire. Heathcliff is adopted by Mr Earnshaw who favours him over his own children, Hindley and Catherine. After Mr Earnshaw’s death, Hindley beats and humiliates Heathcliff who grows closer to and develops feelings for Catherine. Believing his love to be unrequited, Heathcliff leaves and returns years later, as a wealthy gentleman with the intention to pay back the misery he found at Wuthering Heights. ‘so he shall never know how I love him: and that, not because he’s handsome, Nelly, but because he’s more myself than I am.
