Reader's note

Striking with yellow and black dust jackets measuring at 24cm, this wonderful collection of Emile Zola's greatest novels is a centre piece to add to any library! A controversial figure in literature, author Angus Wilson had the following to say about him in the updated introduction for 'Restless House' - Throughout his career Emile Zola met with outbursts of uncontrolled abuse from the literary critics. Like many idealists who are at the same time ambitious men, he welcomed abuse as much as he disliked criticism. Abuse was after all a measure of his power; criticism too often came from friends or disciples and seemed to him treachery'. A master of his craft, Emile Zola's books still hit hard, with these editions from publisher Elek, being as bold on the outside as they are on the inside.
