Reader's note

Add a vintage striped Penguin paperback to your bookshelf with this 1958 edition of Confessions of Felix Krull Confidence Man by Thomas Mann! Felix Krull was a young and good-looking lad who created for himself a personality to charm and deceive the world of wealth and to allow him to pursue a gay and successful career in society. The son of a Rhenish manufacturer of sparkling wine of exceptionally poor quality, he found an unusual means of evading service in the German army and headed for Paris, where a menial job in a hotel awaited him. A 'misplaced' jewel-case at the French Customs gave him a good start, followed by a brief but passionate affair with the literary wife of a rich manufacturer of lavatory fittings.
