Reader's note

This stunning, gold and red antique edition of Chaucer's works will be a marvellous centrepiece for any library! This edition from the 1800s is written in the middle English. The following stanza is taken from 'The Monk's Tale - At Lucifer, though he an aungel were, And nat a man, at hym wol I biginne, For though Fortune may noon aungel dere, From heigh degree yet fel he for his synne, Doun into helle, where he yet is inne. O Lucifer, brightest of angels alle, Now artow Sathanas, that mayst nat twynne, Out of miserie, in which that thou art falle - difficult to understand, but all the more beautiful to read outloud the way it was originally intended. A fascinating look at how language has evolved and a stunning jewel in any collection.
