Reader's note

Pocket sized and perfectly formed, this charming edition of the Charles Dickens classic is complete with 24 black and white illustrations by George Cruikshank. In chapter 28, Oliver is left to the elements as he completes a task assigned to him by Bill Sikes - The air grew colder, as day came slowly on; and the mist rolled along the ground like a dense cloud of smoke. The grass was wet; the pathways, and low places, were all mire and water; the damp breath of an unwholesome wind went languidly by, with a hollow moaning. Still, Oliver lay motionless and insensible on the spot where Sikes had left him. - the imagery created by Dickens in this small extract is truly haunting. Yet another reason why this is one classic that shouldn't be missed.
