Reader's note

A.E.W. Mason's writings are always a classy and welcome addition to any bookshelf. Appearances were ranged accusingly against Celia Harland when she vanished after the murder of the multi-jewelled Frenchwoman she was living with. Or so it seemed to Mr Ricardo the unsubtle Englishman whose Aix-les-Bains holiday was disturbed by the murder. And so it must surely have seemed to brilliant, headstrong Harry Wathermill, who was so closely concerned with Celia. As for the murdered woman’s maid, there was no doubt about her opinion of the English girl - she never had liked her. But Inspector Hanaud, of the Paris Surete, viewed appearances with the inborn suspicion of the detective mind. The perfect gift for all lovers of classic literature and rare, vintage books.
