Reader's note

Pretty in pink with a purple spine! This wonderful book will look great on any pastel coloured bookshelf. Anton Tchekhov added a new dimension to his plays by including 'indirect action' The curtain rises and we the audience suddenly realise that we aren't entering the start of the conversation, the conversation started before the play commenced! The subjects discussed revolve around everyday experience: we can identify ourselves with them. Gradually this surface quality disappears until the characters and the incidents become transformed into a new reality: we start to see the people in Tchekhov's plays not as they appear to the outward eye, but to the mind's eye - as they really are. Don't miss out on this excellent selection from J. M. Dent and come to your own conclusions about the human condition. This book is the perfect literary gift for anyone who has a serious love of drama and the theatre.
