Reader's note

Add a dash of blue to your reference library with this wonderful vintage Penguin! There have been many biographies of the 18th century poet Alexander Pope, but as the author reminds us in her introduction - it is extremely difficult to disentangle the evidence' Most of Pope's biographer have taken sides against him, and most of their attention has been occupied by the less attractive sides of his nature. There is no doubt that he spent much of his time in hot water and the list of his protracted quarrels is a long one! Edith Sitwell presents a counter-attack to Pope's detractors and it is illuminated by some of the most searching literary criticism written. This book is a fascinating reading and is a wonderful way to complete or start your Penguin biography collection.
