Reader's note

This beautiful book, with eye catching and stylish silhouette front and back covers, is filled to the brim with wonderful Polish folklore. This magical book grew out of stories told to the author as a child by her Polish father, and it is perfectly matched by the marvellous illustrations by Jan Pienkowski, and artist who spent his childhood in Poland. Read on as this excerpt is taken from the title story - One day Babka found a poor bird lying on the ground exhausted with hunger, so she took it home and fed it and warmed it. Soon life and lustre came back to its plumage and its tails spread out like a fan of gold. It was indeed the King of Birds and it granted her three wishes for her kindness - that her forest home should never be spoiled, a fountain that never ceased to flow and a fire that never went out - find out the further adventures of Babka and add this classic fairy-tale collection to your library.
