Reader's note

A wonderful copy of Ernest Hemingway’s For Whom the Bell Tolls. In what is often regarded as one of Hemingway’s best works, Robert Jordan is an American volunteer in the Spanish Civil War. As part of an antifascist guerrilla unit in the high, pine forests of the Spanish Sierra, he is tasked with dynamiting a vital bridge during an attack on the city of Segovia. During the brutality and comradeship of the war, Robert falls in love with the beautiful Maria. In this story, Hemingway drew from his own experiences as a Spanish Civil War reporter to create a war novel that is simultaneously beautiful and strong, and brutal and moving.
