The 18th - 19th century saw a huge literary output, and many of our most loved classic authors were writing at this time - Jane Austen,the Bronte sisters,Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy and George Eliot, to name just a few. Novels at this time were often realist - they focused on contemporary life and social issues, with honest explorations of themes like social mobility, women’s rights, poverty, marriage and more. We think any good bookshelf should contain a selection of these much-loved and much-discussed works.
